Pimp my PMP

Partitioning

The best tool to use is SWISSNIFE (apparently). Here is the way it should work out from power up.

  1. Power up the PMP
  2. Get an error - Boot failure
  3. Attach to computer
  4. PMP will still provide itself as a USB hard drive
  5. Use Swissnife to partition the drive - leave about 10Mb free at the end of the drive (not sure why).
  6. The partition needs to be a FAT32 partition which is active. Swissnife should be able to create this and format it.
  7. Disconnect the PMP and restart it.
  8. Repeat steps 2 and 3 and then copy the system files
  9. Disconnect the PMP and restart it
  10. It should work
  11. If it does not, start again and try from the start with a smaller partition
  12. Perhaps only a 29Gb or 19Gb partition will work
  13. If that's the case, you might try making the small partition and then using PartitionMagic to resize it to the full whack.
  14. Doing it that last way broke my PMP.

If in doubt, don't bother.
